Personality Traits and Types of Housing Recovery after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

The Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami struck the northeastern coastal area of on 11 March 2011, resulting in relocation 329,000 households repair 572,000 houses. Previous studies predominantly addressed impact demographic factors housing recovery. However, types recoveries individual psycho-behavioral have been poorly addressed. This study examined survivors’ personality-trait using a discriminant analysis five recovery among 573 survivors years after disaster. results revealed two important axes. One axis discriminated self-procured (rebuilt, repaired, chartered housing) houses from those that were publicly available (emergency temporary public disaster affected by three personality traits (stubbornness, problem-solving, active well-being) age. other represented rebuilt household size. These demonstrate not just recoveries. Further exploration can improve post-disaster reconstruction practices.
